The next MOA AGM will be held on the weekend of 9-11 February in Belfast. The venue is the Europa Hotel, situated right in the centre of the city. We have managed to negotiate good rates for members attending. For those not based on the island of Ireland, there are excellent transport links to Belfast with regular flights to the George Best airport. Ferries run frequently from Cairnryan in Scotland, Birkenhead in England, and Holyhead in Wales.
Northern Ireland is a beautiful country and there are many places to visit; if you extend your visit, a trip to the Giant’s Causeway is heartily recommended.
Belfast is an attractive city with friendly people and plenty of attractions to explore. It is the city in which the Titanic was built before her fateful voyage to America. The Titanic Belfast exhibition is located beside the Titanic Slipways, the Harland & Wolff Drawing Offices and Hamilton Graving Dock – the very place where the vessel was designed, built and launched. The exhibition tells the story of the Titanic from conception, through construction and launch, to the maiden voyage and subsequent place in history.
Close by is HMS Caroline where you can travel back in time and experience life at sea during the First World War. You can witness what life was like during the Battle of Jutland, explore where the crew lived and slept, and hear their amazing stories; from the concert parties they performed on board to the incredible mascots that lived alongside them.
In the city centre, the perfectly manicured lawns surrounding Belfast City Hall contain a wealth of memorials to the history, people and events associated with the city. Among the most poignant are the Cenotaph built in memory of all those who died in the First World War. Situated to the east side of the City Hall, Titanic Memorial Gardens contain the names all 1,512 victims of the disaster.
Visit Belfast have kindly produced a video to give us a taste of all that Belfast has to offer us during our visits.
The MOA weekend programme will follow the usual pattern of recent events. Arrive at the venue on Friday, with drinks hosted by the Commodore and an informal meal. Visits will be arranged for Saturday followed by a formal dinner and an after-dinner speaker. The AGM will be held on Sunday will be followed by lunch.
Please note the date in your diary and come along to an unforgettable AGM weekend with the opportunity to catch up with MOA friends and make new ones.

Saturday Evening
Guest Speaker
Mark Doherty
The Partner Ships – the Tall Ships of Belfast
Belfast is famous for creating the world’s finest passenger steam ships, particularly those for the premier route from Britain to New York. Of these, Titanic still captures the imagination. This talk will look at the forgotten tall ships made in Belfast during the late Victorian era, some of the finest to sail the seas. We will learn the fascinating story of five ships named after the business partners of Harland & Wolff – fine vessels that circled the globe.
