Data Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies only to the use of your personal information by the Moody Owners Association.

Scope of this privacy policy and updates

The Moody Owners Association may update this privacy policy from time to time, and an updated version will be placed on this page. Regularly reviewing this page ensures that you are always aware of the information the Moody Owners Association collects, how it is used and under what circumstances, if ever, the Moody Owners Association will share it with any other parties.

Rationale

The Moody Owners Association takes appropriate technical and organisational measures to secure your personal data. A new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force in May 2018, which we must comply with. Failure to do this could result in a serious financial penalty.

As the Moody Owners Association requires a certain amount of data to provide you with the services sought, we need to hold the data requested on the membership joining form. Under the new GDPR, consent is required for us holding any personal data about you. The regulation is not retrospective, so positive consent will only apply to new member applications. The membership form now includes a box to tick indicating that you consent to us holding the data about you. If you do not wish us to hold your information, we will be unable to process your application.

Security and use of your personal information

If you voluntarily provide us with any requested information, we use that information only to ensure the effective running of the association. The information is used to generate a Membership Register, a subset of which through the handbook is available only to members to facilitate communication. We will not use the information for other purposes, and we do not share it with anyone outside of the Moody Owners Association. The General Committee will regularly review the information we hold to ensure that it is necessary for the effective running of the association. Any data deemed to be unnecessary will be removed.  The personal data which the Moody Owners Association holds is never modified or disclosed to a third party other than our authorised suppliers e.g. The Compass and Members Handbook publishers. Members will be asked to actively consent to us holding their data at the time of membership renewal or application for membership.

The key information we hold about members is their name and address, contact phone number(s), and email address, and the password supplied when joining the association.

Your name and address are essential for us to be able to communicate with you, and ensure that items such as the Compass magazine, membership card, and other purchases can be mailed to you.

Your contact phone number(s) allow us to contact you about your membership, if necessary, but also enable the Branch Captains to get in touch about branch events.

Your e-mail address and password are used for verification of your membership to access the services provided by the Moody Owners Association. If you provide us with your e-mail address, it will also be used nationally and by your nominated branch to tell you about events and offers about which you might be interested. You may, at any time, decide not to receive electronic communications from us or have your contact details published in the handbook, or have your personal data removed if you are no longer a member. If so, please contact the Membership Registrar who will take the necessary action.  As the GDPR does allow an organisation to retain data for historical research, for example for tracing previous owners of yachts, the current practice of resigning people but keeping their ownership details on file will continue.

No personal information is automatically collected from visitors to this site.
