From the 6 members who attended the first Steering Committee meeting on April 1st, the membership had grown to 185 at the end of December that year.  The first President Eric Moody died within a few months and Gordon Moody became the President Elect.

Over 50 membership applications were received at the Southampton Boat Show that year.

Members came from Hamble, Lymington, Poole, Scotland, Dartmouth, Chichester, Portsmouth, Weymouth, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, Germany, the Mediterranean and the USA,
